Ingolstadt node
At the Ingolstadt node in Upper Bavaria, the railway line is being equipped with the Europe-wide standardised train control system ETCS Level 2 in order to enable the future passability of the Nuremberg – Ingolstadt – Munich line with this digital train control system. In addition, a modern interlocking will replace the existing interlockings.

Most of the infrastructure projects are still in the planning phase, which means that the information provided on these pages reflects the current planning status and is updated regularly.
As part of the project to equip the Ingolstadt junction with ETCS and modern interlocking technology, a new modern interlocking is being built in Ingolstadt. This will replace the two previously used, non-ETCS-compatible interlockings at Ingolstadt Central Station (relay interlocking) and in Ingolstadt North (electronic interlocking sub-centre). The node will also be equipped with ETCS Level 2 and the technology of the seven level crossings in the project area will be modernised and connected to the new interlocking.
The project lays the foundation for the future conversion of the entire Ingolstadt network district to ETCS and modern interlocking technology. At the same time, this will enable ETCS to be used on the Nuremberg – Ingolstadt – Munich (NIM) route.
In order to operate the new interlocking in Ingolstadt, a digital control centre will be set up in Ingolstadt and a digital technology centre in Augsburg in accordance with the operations control strategy (BSS). This will create attractive, modern workplaces for signalling staff in Ingolstadt. Commissioning of the ETCS Ingolstadt node project is planned for 2030.
