Hagen – Unna – Hamm

The corridor refurbishment from Hagen via Unna to Hamm plays a key role in connecting North Rhine-Westphalia with northern Germany. As part of this project, modern interlockings are being installed within the Hagen and Hamm network areas. The planned digital control centre in Hagen will subsequently ensure the operation of the new interlockings in Hagen.

The corridor refurbishment between Hagen, Unna and Hamm plays a key role in connecting North Rhine-Westphalia to the rail network. The corridor links the Cologne and Ruhr metropolitan regions directly with northern Germany and Berlin. Given its strategic location and great importance, the renewal and expansion of the infrastructure along this section are of particular significance.

The project covers the section behind Hagen Central Station on line 2550, runs via lines 2840 (Schwerte Station – Heide junction) and 2103 (Holzwickede Station – Unna Station), and ends in front of Hamm Central Station on line 2932. The area in question is approximately 56 km long.

The Hagen network currently houses the central electronic interlocking (ESTW-Z) with sub-control centre 1 and sub-control centre 2. In this area, the relevant line sections will be separated from the ESTW-Z and consolidated into an integrated sub-control centre. In addition, a digital control centre is being established in Hagen, which will in future take over the operation of the integrated sub-control centre, supplemented by a digital technical centre.

Further infrastructure measures, such as new points and overhead lines, are being implemented as part of the corridor refurbishment in separate projects. As part of the corridor refurbishment, Digitale Schiene Deutschland is responsible for the construction of the integrated sub-control centre in Hagen, as well as the digital control centre and the digital technical centre. In parallel, a modern interlocking is being built on the Hamm network.
