Digital interlocking (DSTW: Digitales Stellwerk) Koblenz-Trier

The Koblenz-Trier digital interlocking project is a pre-series project of the Digital Control and Safety Technology (DLST) for the modernization of the railroad infrastructure in Rhineland-Palatinate. It improves the control of rail traffic on an important route between Koblenz and Trier.

Route data

Route from Koblenz
Route to Trier
Route lenght approx. 69 km
Route number(s) 3010,3112

Planned measures

Digital interlocking(s) replacement of 10 old interlockings by a DSTW
Scope of equipment
  • 270 Signals
  • 83 Switches
  • 11 Level crossings
  • Design integrated operating station (DiB)
  • Fibre optic (FO) cabling in the track field
Planned speed up to 120 km/h

Koblenz-Trier digital interlocking

The Koblenz-Trier digital interlocking (DSTW) in Rhineland-Palatinate is being built along the Moselle line between Ediger-Eller and Ehrang. As DB InfraGo AG's first DSTW in the central region, it is one of three planned pre-series projects for digital control and safety technology (DLST). Digital interlocking components and standard interfaces are being implemented as part of this project.

The line between Koblenz and Trier (3010 Moselle line, including the branch to Traben-Trarbach (3112)) will be equipped with DLST over a total length of around 69 kilometers. This line is of great importance for both regional and freight traffic and is also used by special trains for tourists during wine festivals in the region. The line runs along the Moselle and passes numerous vineyards as well as several winegrowers' crossings, which are a special feature due to their simple turnstiles and narrow crossings.

Track concentrators (GFK) and a technical site are being built along the route. The project will also include the signaling, the laying of cables and the connection of the field elements to the DSTW. The connection of level crossings to the DSTW technology is also being implemented as part of this pre-series project. Furthermore, a switch removal including adaptation of the overhead line is planned at Wittlich station.

Implementation

The project will be executed in several consecutive construction phases. In the first construction phase, the necessary cable ducts, track crossings and signal foundations will be created. This will be followed by the laying of new cables, the necessary structural engineering work and the renewal of the electrical switch heaters.

As part of the pre-series projects (VSP), the new digital interlocking (DSTW) with modular interchangeable components is to be tested and prepared for the subsequent series projects.

Benefit:

- Qualified testing of all processes, subsystems and also of the overall system of digital signaling technology (DLST

- A secure basis for the realisation of series projects
