Modernising our rail infrastructure – Understandable & compact insights into LST technologies and infrastructure projects

Comprehensive modernisation of the rail infrastructure is crucial for viability for the future of rail transport. As part of Digitale Schiene Deutschland (DSD), DB InfraGO AG is pursuing the goal of making German rail transport more attractive, more efficient and more reliable through digital control and safety technology (LST) – in passenger and freight transport. In two new explanatory films, we show in a compact and understandable way how we bring the technology onto the track.

The existing railway infrastructure is reaching its limits. Many lines are too old, prone to faults and full. They are no longer technically up to date. Delays and restrictions in train services are the result – and this with growing demand.

This is where Digitale Schiene Deutschland (DSD) comes in with the modernisation of control and safety technology. Equipping the German rail infrastructure with ETCS and modern interlockings will sustainably improve its quality and performance – and create the basis for reliable train services.

In our new explanatory films, we show in a clear and compact way how these LST technologies are used in practice: In the first explanatory film, we explain how we bring ETCS and modern interlockings to track and what role Digitale Schiene Deutschland of DB InfraGO AG plays in this. In the second explanatory film, we give an insight into practical application: we show what we are modernising or building in the two infrastructure projects Wörth – Germersheim – Speyer from the Fast-Track Programme and the Corridor Rhine-Alpine: Starting with signals and ETCS balises through to countless kilometres of cable. This clearly shows how closely people, technologies and infrastructure are interlinked.

Complex topics – explained clearly and concisely. Raise the curtain and start the explanatory films (in German only)!
